Don't get me wrong, I love buying from KEH. When selling, used equipment resellers like KEH are good if you want to unload a whole bunch of stuff stress-free. But they have all the overhead of warehousing and shipping and paying workers and stress to deal with, and they're going to sell it for the most they can get for it, and like any pawn shop they will buy the thing for much less than they think it will sell for—otherwise it's an unprofitable enterprise.

If you want to get the most you can for your gear, you need to sell directly to the end consumer on places like eBay or Craigslist or buy/sell forums. Not to a resale store promising to pay top dollar.

Add the huge inventory of stock that they might not be able to sell at any price.  Must be a massive cost - no wonder that they need good margins.

But more popular easily resold stuff can be re-sold on smaller margins.  Consider the stuff that is more marginal - they would have to buy it at scrap value prices to be worthwhile - and where is the scrap buyer for unwanted obsolete camera gear?
