It's more about carrying your gear more confidently without having to worry about a little weather happening and being able to shoot more efficiently in a broader range of conditions. Still gotta dry it off in the end, but you don't have to coddle it or rush to hide it.

Also I think there are some water-repellent protective filters out there.
