Adobe DNG future compatibility

I've been using Adobe Lightroom CC for years converting my raw files from various Nikon, Canon and even Samsung cameras to DNG. What happens if I decide to migrate from Adobe or Adobe goes bust/abandns DNG? How supported DNG is in other software. Are there any other software that will properly recognise and apply my LR edits?
I know that Adobe DNG support becoming unavailable is highly hypothetical scenario, but me abandoning Adobe - not so much. I certainly would like to keep my options open for the future.
Your thoughts/experience? And yes, I know there is an option to keep the OEM raw files separately or within the DNG container, but I haven't done so because when I started storage was still a bit of a concern.
