Experience with Nikon service?

I wasn't sure what forum that this would belong in, but I thought I would try here first since it's a question about Nikon service in general (and I own Nikon camera's and lens)

My wife has a pair of Nikon binoculars that she returned for service to Nikon. 5 weeks later she receive back a refurb, but the WRONG model. The model we received back is a much cheaper model. In two weeks we leave for a birding trip to Costa Rica. Nikon has agreed to remedy the problem and replace the incorrect model with the correct model but I'm afraid it will take another 5 weeks. This will ruin the trip for my wife if she doesn't get the binoculars in time.  We've already sent back the incorrect binocs and they have received them.

Has anybody had bad experience sending their camera equipment to Nikon service? Is there anyway to escalate an issue?  Name of a service manager or someone to contact?
