Low Cost, Used OK, No Lens Camera, Larger Sensor Size

Suppose that you wanted to illuminate a camera sensor with a laser light interference pattern. No lens. Utilize a camera that works well but is out of style/popularity? (Don't consider the issue of laser light damaging the sensor.)

You look at new low priced cameras without lenses and the sensors are extremely small, a few mms, and you'd like at larger sensor.

Maybe buy an old DSLR with a 15 X 20 mm sensor?

Are there cameras with USB that have larger sensors? Any large sensor cameras, no lens, that for some reason displays on a computer screen through USB?

If you remove the lens from a DSLR, what would you have to do and what would your see? Manual exposure control. You would see a frosted screen after a mirror reflection? That mirror pops out of the way for sensor exposure. Can the mirror be pinned up and just use the camera's LCD for viewing?

A used mirrorless camera? Disadvantages?

Any interesting options come to mind?
