Lenses with 3D look/feel

Hello,

Plastic arts involve physical manipulation of a plastic medium by molding a sculpture. Unlike plastic arts photography is a visual art constrained to a two dimensional working space.

Often people refer to a lens as rendering a 3D feeling of volume or as having great plasticity(since plastic arts are in actual 3D as mentioned above). Others would disagree noting that it is an illusion achieved by the composition and the exact scene as done for ages in paintings. Here I am referring just to the lens' rendering and not to composition, perspective, nor the use of shallow dof for subject isolation.

Do you find some lenses generally giving you a better pronounced depth and dimensionality of your images? Which lenses have this 3D rendering in your experience? What do you think are the factors making a lens' rendering look more 3D?

Cheers,

Ian
