Time for a change.
1

Hello All,

I’ve decided to move from Canon 70d to the Sony A7Riii for the following reasons in order of significance:

  • Just getting bored and need something new and Sony looks interesting.
  • Want to move from crop to full frame for the experience of it (interest/learning).
  • Want a somewhat lighter/smaller camera system (back problems).
  • Want more reliable focusing (70d was just ok IMO).
  • Want better low light and nightscape (astro) performance. Going to also look into a tracker system and stacker software.
  • Want more resolution for larger prints and crop ability.

My current photography consists of the 70d in servo mode with back button focusing using the following lenses in order of usage:

  • Canon 135mm F2 for family shots and portraits (mostly good but a few times too tight for space)
  • Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 for astro/landscapes/travel (mostly at 11mm)
  • Sigma 20mm F1.4 for tight people shots (restaurants/indoors/parties)
  • Canon 55-250mm kit lens for telephoto needs (zoo, travel, landscapes….etc)

Note 1: If I am taking photos of people or animals I absolutely value shallow depth of field to isolate the subject. The more the better for me.

Note 2: I like the 135mm f2 mostly because I can get both the foreground and background significantly out of focus in the same picture.

Note 3: I am heading to India this year for 3 weeks. I would like a small/light kit to take pics of temples and architecture. Not a big fan of taking pics of strangers.

So my budget is about 5K USD including the body. What do you suggest as far as lenses considering my interests and usage above? Any suggestions on camera choice are welcome too but I am liking the 7rii so far. I usually by used.
