Their golden window of opportunity is open now

It's going to take a while for Canon to build up its RF lens inventory.

The golden window of opportunity for third-party lens manufacturers today is about the same as it was 30 years ago when Canon dumped the FD mount.

And I suspect it's easier today because the transition is more gradual. They've had the EOS R and a couple of lenses in their hands for a year, and they've known for sure that Canon is definitely--even if gradually--going 100 percent into mirrorless technology.

I suspect they've been working hard for this past year to "be where Canon ain't" for as long as that window of opportunity is open.  All they really have to do in many cases is reverse engineer the higher-speed protocol and add a spacer to existing element designs.

I'll be surprised if we don't see them rolling out RF-mount lenses before the end of this year.
