430ex-iii rt Bounce Adapter

I have a Canon 430ex-iii rt speedlight. It came with a separate bounce adapter. I knew how to put it on, but just recently learned that it has to fit snug to trigger a couple contacts under the light.  This alters the flash somehow to perform properly with the adapter.

Mine fits fairly loose to the point of falling off. I can hear the motor in the flash if I apply a little pressure to manually depress the contact points.  Otherwise it just softens the regular flash but doesn’t change the light otherwise.

Is there a way to tighten this up, or are these adapters pretty disposable?  Just time for a new one?
