Canon g7x mark II astrophotography

Hi, I’ve had a Canon G7x Mark II for the past year. My question is on using this camera for long exposure shots. Is there a way to hold down the bulb on camera without pressing on the button? I can control the camera on my phone through the canon app by just pressing a button to stop exposing, but I was wondering if there was a way to do this on camera? Also, I was taking some long exposure shots with a friend and he felt that my camera was taking too long to let in the light. Would I be correct that since he had an APSC sized sensor that it would take longer for my camera? Thanks!
