I really don't think a high end APS-C body, a spiritual successor to the 7D line, would have the slightest effect on R1 sales. If the R5 is good enough, that would be another story, especially coming as it does before the mirrorless 'pro' (in the traditional sense) body.

In any case the number of wildlife photographers with a 1D X II is quite small in my experience. It's too big, too expensive, and 20 MP full frame can be rather underendowed next to 33 MP crop. The 5D4 is my tool of choice, but the 30 MP and 7 fps can be marginal sometimes - the R5 look set to fix both of those.

The situation is the same in the Nikon camp, with loads of D500s, a lot of D8xx's, and you hardly ever see a D5.
