Even with image review turned off, there is still an inevitable momentary loss of live viewing while the exposure occurs.

In a DSLR, that results in a momentary black screen. In the EOS R, the EVF holds the last image frozen through the blackout. It always does that, always. There is no way to turn that off.

That is disconcerting, more jarring than the blackout. I'd like to say it's something that one can become accustomed to, but I think extending one moment and then joining that moment to another moment farther along is always going to be more jarring than riding through a blackout.
