Looks like the mount should be backed by an inside metal plate attached to the metal frame, or some way to make it more robust, but you can break anything if you apply too much leverage to it. I would never use a lever to tighten it this way. It doesn't need to be that tight. I have to call this contributory damage. Overtightening of something that should be engineered to be stronger.
