predict R7 = R2, R9 = RP2, APSC R10, Rebel R100
2

Canon is wise going ← back to its naming system:

  • X digits = FF (5D, 6D)
  • XX digits = Advance APS-C (10d, 20d, 30d, 40d)
  • XXX digits = Consumer APS-C Rebel (300d, 350d XT, 400d XTi)

So if we replaced (D)SLR with the new (R)

R5 = High End High MP FF Mirrorless

R6 = High End LOW MP FF Mirrorless

R7 = Consumer FF Mirrorless (R2)

R8 = Low End RPii with EVF

R9 = Low End  RPii without EVF

R10 = Enthusiast APS-C (replace 90d)

R100 = Consumer APS-C (replace Rebel DSLR)

This also is the released schedule.  So R5/R6/R7 (EOS Rii) in 2020, then cheapo FF R8/R9 on 2021, completely round out FullFrame Mirrorless releases.

In 2 yrs has, EF DSLR and EOS-M should be DEAD or Sufficiently Neglected to justified APS~C (R) I'm 2022 or sooner.

There is no doubt that Canon is consolidating to just 1 Mount very soon
