Well, they finally did with the GX9! (and I think Albert is talking about the GX9 in his post just above yours)

Brent (from having just checked this out on GX9) we have to deactivate the analog (hard) control in order to select a programmable dial to do it (w/out clicking).  On my Sony, as long as the hard dial is set at zero, you can use your index finger (or thumb) dial to readily adjust EV.  [The analog dial would still be active - that is what i would like on GX9]

Am I not right?
