I disagree.

I have owned and used the 20mm f1.7 panny, and it focuses plenty fast enough. It was never a problem, not once that I can remember.

I also owned the 17mm Olympus, on an omd em1, and it was without question, my favourite lens. And I also had the 12-40 Pro, which never got a look in after I purchased the 17mm f1.8. In fact, the 17mm f1.8 was the lens that made me sell the 12-40, as I never really used the zoom, and felt f2.8 was a tad limiting on m4/3. I just preferred that 17 to be honest.

The pictures from the 17mm always looked great, they had a more 'real' look to them. Sure if I compared it to the 45mm f1.8, it was probably not as sharp, but I didn't rate the 45mm lens, apart from it's sharpness. The shots were just not as pleasing as the 17 f1.8 shots.

And that 17mm f1.8 DOES focus fast.... really fast.

Get a good second hand one to try, and sell it on if it's as bad as you think.

My guess is you will keep it, or trade it for a new one. It's a corker!!
