I'm thinking the same myself. Every image I've seen posted by the OP seems to have some kind of misty veil with no contrast. There is something not right. There may be moist air trapped between the Sony protective clear filter and the true lens. My advice would be to take the filter off and shoot a brick wall or something similar at the native ISO of the camera. Then we can truly see whether he has a duff lens.

The thing that points to the lens not being duff, is the fact that post-processing any of his images results in a good sharp contrasty image! I find this baffling.

And got it to this, it's as though the veil has been lifted!
