Interesting POV

Why is it that recently designed and delivered high performing M43 lenses are too expensive, but older, inexpensive M43 lenses are too slow to AF and don't produce high performance results?

It's all relative. The 20mm some describe as slow, actually has a lightning fast AF compared to C&N lenses of 20 years ago . It is also fast compared to 4/3 lenses, the predecessor system to m43.

M43 is a young system, so people compare the 20mm released in 2009 to more modern lenses released say in 2013 and say it is slow. Had they a chance to compare it to a 20 or 30 year old lens, nobody would say it is slow.

Then, this is a gear forum. Many here have succumbed to the way of thinking of the smartphone age (even when they openly claim to despise phones ). A two year old phone is old iron, so a two year old camera is old iron too, new models are sooo much better, with sooo many new indispensable features you just cannot live without.... you just must have that very latest model or your pictures will suffer and be of sub-par quality.... an 11 year old lens is unbearably slow... etc... The entire photo industry (what's left of it) lives from people with this mindset, their advertising encourages it. Buy and toss, buy and toss... how many buy features they hardly ever use once the novelty wears off, how many pay huge premiums for features that you could have on older models with workarounds. I do not think the significance or artistic value of pictures has improved that much in the past decades, thanks to all these new features introduced with each new models.

Yet old design and expensive DSLR lenses from C&N are not similarly disrespected? How many inexpensive high performance pancakes do they offer?

Maybe on the C&N forums we can read the same thing about their lenses. And maybe comments about how inexpensive, small, light and capable M43 is.

My friends who shoot C or N learned about M43 in their forums.
