According to Chris and Jordan (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRzsKMUXJNk) the new lens is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade to the old one. Best to wait for independent confirmation of this, but if confirmed, that is a really big difference meaning that an upgrade is inevitable for me, with the only question remaining of whether to upgrade to the Sony or the X100V (as opposed to my old favorite option of not upgrading at all).
In other news, it is WR if you buy some adapters.
Why not built in WR? If need adapter, just similar to 3rd party underwater case.
Video explains it - the front element cannot be WR, so that's why an adapter is needed to complete the seal.
Ok. thanks for info. Just saw the video. However, still feel little uncomfortable.
The number of comments about features that were expected to be missing and the expected price increase (to $1500) in the forums has been crazy the past few days. So many people making assumptions and then discussing them as if they were fact, and letting everyone else know whether or not they will upgrade...
Now that the information is available - has WR with lens adaptor (which I'm sure most X100T, X100F people own), lens is much sharper, cost is $100 more than before, better battery life, tilt screen is flush with body, etc. hopefully the noise can die down.
An adaptor is nothing like an underwater case! Seriously. You can't put a polarizer any other filter without the adaptor on the X100 series (edit: not sure about the tele/wide attachments). It doesn't really make such a big difference.
The details are out, and initial shots make it look like the lens is good. Obviously, wait for more reviews if you are interested. Love it or leave it, no need to beat it to death
What no way, the info we have after the announcement is better than before the release? Well blow me down.
Yes, the V is cheaper and that is of course a good thing, I still stand by my initial comment about WR (this cuts both ways - not caring about WR if its missing also implies not caring about WR if it is not missing).
The lens though was always the #1 question everybody had, and now its been answered.
Right now a new V with 2 conversion lenses is about the same as a used RX1R II, which is therefore still a relevant comparison. I will admit not having made a decision either way. The waters haven't actually gotten any clearer, but at least both options are viable, IMHO.
