I have tried the tilting evf - didn't like it and have not needed it. I just tilt the lcd when I need tilt. But I have no issues with it being present in the camera as it does not get in my way and annoy me like a side hinged lcd.

Plus for the tilt evf - it is a good place to hide the dioptre control and make it easier to use.

Negative - is that it can get caught up in a bag when it is being extracted.

The second catch on the S1/S1R lcd gives a portrait tilt option - the lack of which is usually thrown at tilt preferrers as why the tilt is useless. Frankly I have never missed the lack of portrait tilt. I don't mind the second catch solution for portrait tilt as until the second catch is released the screen works normally as a simple landscape tilt unit. Fuss free unlike the side hinged lcd.

I am heavily into MF lenses and manage very well with even the GM5 field sequential evf. A tip: I always use full screen magnification as indeed relying on the magnified patch in the centre of the screen is worse than useless.

Did you also know that when in MF with eye to evf: magnify to focus - soft press to compose - thumb dab anywhere on the lcd to re-magnify the image for precise focus - repeat as necessary. Works a treat.  Works with all recent Panasonic bodies that I know of.
