The GX7 was a great camera, in its time. The grip is perfect! WHY Panasonic decided to ditch it in favor of those brick-eded lumps is beyond me. Probably to save a few cents.

At Adorama last week, I spent some time comparing all the current Panasonic M4/3 cameras (GX9, G9, G95) to my GX8… size, weight, handling and EVFs.

The GX8 is the Goldilocks camera… just right in so many ways. Not too big or bulky, not too small, not too heavy. And a great EVF. Handles well with lenses big and small, too.

I don’t really need a tilt evf.

Have you used one extensively? I was dubious when I got my GX7, but It's incredibly great. Just tilting it to 30° or 45° makes the camera much more comfortable to use. No nose presses on the LCD, either… especially with my beak.

Shooting UP toward ceilings or into trees is where it really shines! I can't imagine a camera without it at this point.

A side hinged lcd would drive me mad - I don’t buy camera bodies with side hinged lcd - but I did buy a g9 despite my better judgement but can only stay sane by pretending that it is a fixed lcd just like my old dslr bodies.

I've used both tilt and fully articulated. Both have pros and cons. I do a lot of vertical oriented shooting, so the fully articulated is better for my shooting style. I can manage either one, though.

If anyone needs more articulation then the second catch hinged portrait tilt on the S1 gives more playroom without the articulation madness.

The S1 LCD doesn't tilt enough.

I have no issue with the present sequential field evf (GM5, GX7, GX85, GX9) although many would wish to see a larger evf to make the line into a larger camera body.

Using mostly manual lenses, for me a bigger EVF is essential. The GX7 series fails big time in that regard.

Grip is fine, flush top plate is great ....

Those that wish for a bigger grip, “Better” evf, side hinged lcd, more firmware goodies, etc need look no further than the present G9 that packs somewhat more punch than the present GX9 (and technically costs more). Please don’t turn the GX9 into a pseudo G9 .... that is why Panasonic makes two types of very similar performance camera bodies.

I tend to carry my camera most days, so a smaller, streamlined camera is essential. For travel and wandering around, a more discrete camera is important, too. While the G9 is feature packed, etc, I simply wouldn't want to carry one. Too big.

I would cut someone for a GX8 II and a GM6. I'm so, so tired for these monstrous m4/3 bodies that are larger than full-frame.

that s exaggerated . there is plenty of room between a gm and a "monstrous m43 body"

I also agree with you that the GX8 is perfect. I find the grip is plenty large enough when I pair it with the leather half case and use big lenses.

Good and other people would have different opinion about what is the best size for them. Personally I think it is better if there isa choice within the m4/3 system for different body sizes . it makes the system more versatile for one and also more likely to reach a wider target

As for lenses:

-A slow, sharp, compact 8-18 like Canon's EF-M 11-22.

are you aware that there is already a 8-18mm at Panasonic and it is pretty compact

The Olympus 9-18 is...not great.

-Weather-sealed primes and a weather sealed re-issue of the 12-32 pancake.

-100 mm macro (I personally would not buy it, but I know a lot of people here would).

That's about all I can think about. The m4/3 line-up is nearly complete and with Olympus bringing the f/4 Pro zooms and their monster 150-400, just about every niche is filled.

I disagree. there is a lack in the m4/3 system . m4/3 does not have an AF UWA single focal lens . like a 9 or a 10mm

a weather sealed compact 3.5/10mm for instance should attract many buyers

Have you seen how small (and optically excellent) the Canon EF-M 11-22 is compared to the Panasonic 8-18?

You are kidding right ? I do not consider a lens which has so much vignetting  that you have to stop more than 2 stops to get down to useable result optical excellent 

Not to mention the fact that it si quite ironic to compare the digital mirrorless system with the system which has the least number of lenses 

The point of my lens wish list was we already have a plethora of larger, heavier and weather sealed pro lenses. It's time to fill the gap in the line-up with smaller, weather sealed lenses and primes to pair with some of the smaller, weather sealed bodies.

I'm not the only one who thinks this way. Olympus obviously thinks this has merit, hence the impending f/4 Pro zooms.

As for the comment about size, yes, I agree everyone should be able to choose what suits them. The problem is for us who want a compact(ish) range finder with upscale features, we have no options. The GX8 never received a true successor;

maybe it has to do with most people here who expressed the same desire for compact cameras and lenses do not seem to consider the gx8 as a real compact camera

instead, the cameras have just gotten every increasingly larger. First the E-M1 II, then the G9 and now the G95.

Give us a smaller, weather sealed, feature rich body ffs!
