Re: P1000 or P950

I have the B700 and previously the P610. Both are similar, and the B700 is the P610 upgrade.

The B700 weighs nothing and handles easily in older hands, whereas the P900 and P1000 are lead weights comparatively. That was a factor for me. I was immediately discouraged by the size and weight of the P900 when I owned it, but could still handle it easily. The P1000, however, killed my neck when lugging it around, and while it's smaller than having a Nikon DSLR with a big zoom lens of past, it still takes some care to keep from bumping it into things and carrying it around your neck for traveling. It's a camera-bagger for sure.

I did extensive testing of the P1000 against the B700 for both zoom and landscapes and posted on this site over a year ago. While the P1000 was sharper on the zoom side, it was actually duller on the landscape side because of the 20 megapixels of the B700 vs 16 megapixels of the P1000. But noise is a bigger factor for the B700, so you have to play around with that--typically leave it on Normal.

Here are two comparisons between the P1000 and the B700. Definitely controversial ;o).

All given, I would go with the P950 because of it's updated features and probably improved software.
