On the opposite when I handled G9 a few times in Panny showroom, I knew it is great, reasonable cost, but I also knew my age body will complain if I carry it walking for hours everyday on my travelling.
When I switched from film slrs, super zoom compacts then G1 to GX1, I finally realized how nice to have a small and light weight combo. Has struggled for sometimes while upgraded to GX7 because of the increased size and weight... I promised to my aging body that GX7 would be the biggest gear it has to carry. I skipped GX8 and waited for an extra year to upgrade to GX85.
Last year, stupid me I bought G85 on GAS to replace my aging GX7 (wife loves GX85). When I have to rearrange all camera bags for GX85 + G85 (they need spaces for 3 GXs!), I know it was a bad move. I now try to use smaller lenses like 12~32 more instead of 12~35 to reduce the overall weight.
I am sure G9 could break my back. I hate to keep all or some of the gear in hotel room most of the time.
To some, GX8 is small. G9 is comfortable... All are individual dependent. However as per the general conclusion that it is good for M43 to have an options for every body 😀.
Actually the G9 is as big as Fuji X-H1. So except some special cases (like shooting video) or you have already MFT lenses along with a GX type camera, there is no gain by having that smaller sensor.
well not true . different people has different needs but the m4/3 sensor present several advantages to the aps size sensor
It has the only advantage that it is smaller, then the camera can be made smaller and if you shoot regularly at around f/7-11(35mm) with zoom or you find f/2.8(35mm) enough with a prime then you can get a lens also as small as you need. Nothing less nothing more.
Only a next advancement like global shutter that MFT sensors are more possible to take advantage first can give some advantage.
You can usually find equivalent lenses for APS-C camera with similar size and weight.
not the case for long telephoto lenses

Do not isolate what I said. I said also:
"G9 can be good though if it is going to be used with large lenses which cover a good reach with a reasonable weight and size like those reaching 200mm and above."
(200mm not equivalent)
And the reason that the lenses on MFT are smaller is that they do not manufacture usually lenses with that small aperture on APS-C or FF.
There is no equivalent lens like the Panasonic 100-400mm f/4-6.3 which should be a 200-800mm f/8-12.6 on a FF camera or 150-600mm f/5.3-8.4 on APS-C camera.
But Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 has similar physical characteristics as the equivalent Nikon 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6.
That is why I can praise MFT for cameras like the Panasonic GX or Olympus E-PL line for being coat pocketable. Panasonic G9 or Olympus E-M1 for being great cameras to attach longer lenses like the above. Although I prefer the sizes of Panasonic G85 or Olympus E-M5.
