One of the great things about the GX8 is the flat topped body with nothing sticking out, making it easier to carry and less intrusive than any DSLR styled body. It’s also much less bulky that a G9. I compared my GX8 to a G9 and GX9 the other day at Adorama. For me, the GX8 is pretty much the perfect size. Not too big, not too small.

Yeah, I would have bought a true successor to the GX8 for sure. It was so very close to being perfect. For me anyway. Not now though. I find it a bit difficult to step back to using it after the G9. Not one single major point, just an accumulation of little touches and features that are very hard to move away from once you're accustomed to having/using them. I tried very hard to like the GX80/85, used it in the shop a few times, just can't do it.

On the opposite when I handled G9 a few times in Panny showroom, I knew it is great, reasonable cost, but I also knew my age body will complain if I carry it walking for hours everyday on my travelling.

When I switched from film slrs, super zoom compacts then G1 to GX1, I finally realized how nice to have a small and light weight combo. Has struggled for sometimes while upgraded to GX7 because of the increased size and weight... I promised to my aging body that GX7 would be the biggest gear it has to carry. I skipped GX8 and waited for an extra year to upgrade to GX85.

Last year, stupid me I bought G85 on GAS to replace my aging GX7 (wife loves GX85). When I have to rearrange all camera bags for GX85 + G85 (they need spaces for 3 GXs!), I know it was a bad move. I now try to use smaller lenses like 12~32 more instead of 12~35 to reduce the overall weight.

I am sure G9 could break my back. I hate to keep all or some of the gear in hotel room most of the time.

To some, GX8 is small. G9 is comfortable... All are individual dependent. However as per the general conclusion that it is good for M43 to have an options for every body 😀.
