First thoughts using X-H1.

So I tried it in store about a year ago and decided I didn't need it but I found I kept looking for deals online so rather than waste more of my time I bought one.

Initially the thought was of using mostly my 23mm 1.4 and 56mm 1.2 but I've used those lenses without any issue on X-T20 and X-E2 and the X-H1 just felt unnecessarily large for the job.

I decided to try some of my adapted Canon FD lenses which always felt awkward on the smaller bodies and to my delight they felt right at home on the X-H1. 135mm f2.5 and 50mm 1.4 with Metabones speedbooster.

The shutter will take some getting used to. With MF it's fine but it's really difficult to judge for half press AF use. I might have to try back button focus. I do miss the exposure compensation dial and really don't look at the top LCD.

At night I set it to ISO 800 and A shutter to allow lower shutter speeds to take advantage of the stabilization but then found I needed to adjust shutter speed routinely between shots depending on the scenario to limit motion blur. Kind of an extra step in my thinking rather than auto ISO at 1/60 or 1/125 which was just like set it and forget it.

I thought dual card slots was going to simplify my file management. RAW on 1, jpeg on the other. Rather than import duplicates of every image, I could select the best of the JPG's and import only those as RAW but in reality I feel like it's made things more complicated having to sort through one card and then pull files from the other. I might just go back to everything on one card with a mirrored back up.

So far there are things that I like and things that I don't. It does feel comfortable in the hand but unnecessarily large when packing into a bag. It makes me want to try the 16-55 and 90 to justify this size.

Maybe the rumoured X-T4 will be the right camera for me and my current lenses.
