I feel the biggest impact for me would be the size of the screen such as going from 40 inch to 55 or 65 inch screen.

But that means moving the chair back a bit so the viewing angle is the same (for comfort) so there's not too much head or eye movement to see the whole picture. It turns out to be the same result as sitting closer to a smaller screen.

I went from a 26" wide screen CRT TV to the 43" 4K flat screen. No real difference in viewing, in fact I think that the CRT screen managed to display better looking colours.

A 55 inch TV would gain about 7 extra inches at each of the the corners compared to a 40 inch TV so I would still be able to view the whole screen from 10 feet away. I would have to knock the wall out of my house to move further away.

In NZ and most other countries people were forced to buy a digital TV when TV was broadcasted in digital, which I suspect is why you changed your TV. Having a wider screen 16:9 helped to see more objects especially for news items.

It was a 16:9 ratio CRT TV and I simply used it as a monitor attached to a suitable PVR to watch free to air TV.

As for news it is always amusing to see those idiotic vertical video clips of accidents and events that people submit, for that you need a 16:9 vertical TV screen.
