So as some of you may have noticed, some rumors sites are reporting the announcement of a new entry level iteration (XC) of the much beloved 35mm focal length due tomorrow. It is reported that it will feature an f/2 max aperture, a 43mm filter thread and weight 130g. It will also lack a aperture ring - in line with the other XC lenses design.

Any thoughts on that? Are you worried of a possible cannibalization with the (most certainly) more expensive XF 35 f/2? Thanks for taking the time to read this and have a nice day.

Why? The XF 35/2 has an aperture ring, better build quality(metal) and weather sealing. If you don't care about those things then get the new XC model. There are those of us that do care about those things so I don't think the XC 35/2 will impact the sales of the XF 35/2 that much.

It might since there is a less expensive option for a equivalent optics.  I am sure some stretched to buy the XF 35 f2 before since that was the only option.  However, what Fuji is interested in selling more lenses and more cameras and a less expensive option might result in more 35 f2 lenses being sold with two options than with just one although the sales of the XF 35 f2 might and probably will take a little hit.  But at the end of the day the bean counters should be happy with the results.
