Shutter count accuracy

I've just done a shutter count check using and found my D850 shutter count has increased from 10,652 on 22 Nov (2019) to 14,162 today (26th Jan). The file numbering shows 9,096 on 22 Nov and 9,520 today.

Q. How can the shutter count increase by 3,510 yet the file count by only 424? I Haven't used the camera much at all over these weeks so the 424 is probably about right.

The camera file system was created when I bought it new. I checked back on older files and found:

for file 0009 shutter count was 9
for file 0164 shutter count was 164
for file 0239 shutter count was 257
for file 2279 shutter count was 3495
for file 9096 shutter count was 10,652
for file 9520 shutter count was 14,162

I checked the same on my Z7

for file 0248 shutter count 248
for file 6248 shutter count 6052
for file 7173 shutter count 7005.

Can anyone explain these anomalies? The file name/number has never been changed from their original setup I made when new.  The D850 has a high count than the file numbers whereas the Z7 has a lower count!!

I've tried jpegs and nef/dng files. I shoot Raw on XQD with jpeg on SD but this shouldn't make any difference to the shutter count.
