The studio scene tool is useful for comparing camera & lens performance delivering an out-of-camera image. As we know, however, the OOC image is only part of the story. As has been demonstrated in this thread, heavy-handed in-camera sharpening can produce nice looking JPEGs at screen resolution. When viewed at 1:1, however, ringing around high-contrast details and abrupt tonal transitions become evident. Working with JPEG or raw files in Lightroom or your photo editing app of choice takes minimal time to produce images showing better detail rendering and tonality.

In this specific comparison of out-of-camera moire in fine detail, working with the D850 NEF file in LR takes minimal time to remove moire from the less than 1% of the total image area affected. Moire, like many optical aberrations, is easily addressed in post and, as a result, is largely rendered a meaningless criteria upon which to distinguish the performance of photographic systems.

One of the more significant benefits of the studio scene tool, is that it illustrates the benefits of shooting raw and processing photos to produce an optimal final image. Straight-out-of-camera JPEGs are convenient and almost always look very nice at screen resolution. But once you start looking at images more closely and becoming more demanding of final IQ, investing a few minutes in LR, C1 or another photo editing app produces real improvements.
