Minolta bellows on Sony e-mount -- question

I am new to true macro and decided to give it a go. I have a Sony A6000 and quite a few old Minolta lenses. I bought some Minolta bellows on e-bay for ~$25 thinking they would work. The problem seems to be that the E-mount to Minolta adapter acts as an extension tube which makes it almost impossible to focus unless the lens is almost touching the subject (I am using a 45mm and a 58mm Rokkor lens). Or it could just be that I am doing something wrong. I also tried them on my FF Canon and, while a bit better, the problem was similar.

I realize I could probably just get some bellows specifically designed for the Sony or Canon but I am curious if anyone has experience or advice. I like the old Rokkors and would like to see how they do for macro.

Thanks!
