SLR Lenses for shooting interviews (video)

I’m going to use my DSLR (canon 800d) to shoot short interviews, which will be largely up close (not zoomed from far away). I currently just have the kit lens (18-55mm f/4-5.6, and I’m not sure if this is up to snuff for shooting high quality interview footage on its own. I have a small budget to get another lens or two if they are less than $200.

What do I need to look for in a lens for this purpose? My understanding is that a fast STM lens (eg the 50mm f/1.8 STM) is ideal because I can get shallow DOF and also it’ll be mostly silent while it focuses. thanks!
