Re: Viewer for Stereo Realist slides?
I used the Epson 4490, which you can get on ebay for cheap. It was ok, not super great, but worked at the time over 10 years ago. I now have the V700, which is much better. I had to make a mask out of cardboard that lifted the slide with two images up off the glass slightly. If you notice the slide masks used for scanners lift the images off the glass and the focus is fixed on that. Also the slide scanner module also seems to have a sweet spot for where the slides have to be placed for a good image. Note the placement of the 2D slides into the masks provided and where they end up on the scanner glass, and make your mask so it's in that area as well. So you have to experiment a little. If you want to create a 3D image from the two slides, you can do that with www.stereomaker.net software. It's slow work, and it took me several months of day to day scanning and fixing the slides--well over a 1000 slides. But now they are very precious to me, digitized.
Here are two examples from 1972. I improved the sharpness and color in post processing. Note the first one is the actual Realist format. The second, I cropped to 16:9 HD. These were taken with a Realist 3.5 using Kodacrome. I did this to show the slides using my projector. I found that most slides could be cropped top and bottom without losing the interest of the scene. That is another advantage of copying the slides. I have slides from 1964 to 1995 when I stopped using the Realist--a 3.5 and a 2.8 with German lens--and switched to 2D slide film. I now use a Panasonic 3D1 and Fuji W3.
