Note that, depending on how you use your images, 16 MP is not necessarily that limiting.

If displaying on a full HD screen without any cropping for instance, you only need 1980x1020 pixels meaning a mere 2MP. A 4K screen at 4086x2304 pixels is about 10MP.

Printing large size posters is another matter of course...

Even for large size posters, it matters how close you're going to get to them. Human ability to see detail is limited by our eye's ability to discriminate small angular changes. I can't see the individual pixels on my 65 inch 4K TV, despite it being only 68 DPI. That's 57 x 32 inches.

I'm certain that was the aim of the manufacturer to not show pixels and make the TV picture look more like a photo.

Well, at a comfortable pop-corn munching distance then there's no difference to be seen between 2K, 4K or 8K screens. It's all marketing to get you to buy ever more junk.

The truth though is that screens look better as technology evolves, so HDR efforts etc make the newer models nicer to look at despite what the little pixels may be doing.

If you always sit about 3 feet from your TV then you will see a difference in resolution, if it exists in the source material.

3 feet from the TV becomes a problem if you have a large family watching the TV.
