I have the G7 camera which has a 16k pixel sensor and I noticed the Panasonic produced other cameras that have a 16k pixel sensor, so I'm wondering why not move to higher pixel sensors like other manufactures have.
The only advantage of a 16k sensor was when I was only holiday I could take a lot of photos without fulling up the media card.

8k monitors are already in the stores. And to future proof your photos 10-20 years from now and onwards, it's welcome to have high resolution mode or high resolution sensors, to take advantage of the high resolution TVs in the near future.

It will depend on how good the upscaling is as it needs to upscale a 20 MB sensor photo to full the 8K TV frame. In a 4K TV your downscaling so the quality would look better for a 20 MB sensor photo.

The 8K TV will be 33MP, but the widescreen nature of it will require leaving large amounts of blank space on either side or extreme cropping.

I still think that 8K is overkill and you won't be able to tell the difference between 4K and 8K at any reasonable viewing distance. I already have trouble telling the difference between HD (2K) and 4K. The upscaling won't matter, whether it's from 16MP or 20MP.

I do feel that TV manufactures are struggling to find a way to sell people a TV that well replace the older TV. Will 12k or 16k follow 8k TV's? Where do you find 8K video material to display on a 8K TV?

I remember on a forum 5 years ago someone told me that he had 4K screen, so no need for him to record in 4K and none of his freinds had it either, so he was not using 4K recording.

Well, most camcorder, photocameras, mobile phones, PC Screens and TVs sold today do 4K. Would've been no problem to show his few years 4K recordings.

We can be sure that 16K will be coming in the future sometime, even though it is not neded for most of us. I could live with a 4K TV for the rest of my life, but I know I probably will have a 8K TV within 10 years from now.

Maybe 3D TV will come back again but this time without the need to wear glasses.
