No experience with extension tubes, help me decide what I need.

Using Nikon ES-1 slide digitizer mounted to Nikkor 60mm AF f2.8 D Micro Lens, will not focus on the slide.

Crude experiment: I unscrewed the ES-1 from the lens, handheld it out until the image was in focus and it appears from that crude experiment that the slide would come into focus if there were a one-inch (more or less) extension between the lens and the ES-1. I don't think they make filter extension tubes so I guess I need extension tubes that fit between the lens and body.

No electronic connections between the lens and body need to be made so dumb extensions are fine.

So, having never used extension tubes, I need advice.

If they come in sets of various lengths, what lengths should I look for?

What size extension tubes do I need to make a 1:1 reproduction of my 35mm slides on a full-frame body.

Would I be better off with a focusing rail or bellows or whatever it's called.
