Nikon has some old 300mm F2.8 or the 80-200 F2.8 which can be had pretty cheap. With a teleconverter they may suit until Fuji release something that suits your requirement and you can probably sell them for more or less what you bought them for.

That was another thought I had.  The OP could buy a Fringer adapter and an older Canon telephoto lens that would still maintain autofocus.  Something like the 200mm f/2.8 can be bought used for around $600-$650.  Canon also makes a 300mm f/4 that can be found used for $800-$900.  Some of the earlier Canon super telephoto lenses can be found for under $2,000.
