I just got my new EOS R and I´m wondering why the original neck strap is narrower then regular Canon DSLR straps (4 cm wide vs. 3cm). The weight of whole setup isn´t much lighter (compared to DSLR) so it makes no sense from my point of view.

Or are you ok with 3 cm wide strap? Or are you using 3rd party straps?

I use a Peak Design strap. Had it on my 6D2, and when I sold it, and purchased the R, I just used it. It held a 7D before that. Very sturdy, and comfortable. I never opened the "Canon" strap.

I was thinking the same thing when I first saw how puny it was. It seems even stranger considering they came out with some real heavyweights in terms of lenses. Then again, it is probably scaled down about proportionally to the weight and depth of the 5D series. I will have to wait for some t-shirt weather to see f its width makes it uncomfortable to wear.

I use the Opt/Tech Sling Strap on all my cameras. I'll never use a neck strap again.

I use DIY "frankenstraps" that I cobble together using vintage Tamrac padded suede leather straps with metal Domke swivel clips.

The padded suede is soft, sweat absorbent, and grippy. The Domke swivel clips are secure and prevent tangle. I've put together four of them, which will have to suffice for the rest of my life, because the Tamrac straps are long out of production.

I agree it's too narrow. If you want a Canon strap the Neck Strap ER-100B is a body neutral strap like the DSLR straps.

I've been using the OP/TECH pro loop strap system for years.

Peak Design slide for me.

I use an UPstrap. It's comfortable, keeps the camera where I put it when I use it as a shoulder sling, isn't bulky at the camera like some, and is all non-metallic so that I don't have to worry about it scratching gear when I'm carrying it in my pack.

I usually carry my camera slung across my chest and so short manufacturer straps never make it out of their packages.

I dont see how anyone would ever use a Canon neck strap, they are pure JUNK, all my Canon straps are still in the box.

Check out PEAK DESIGN

I use the Slide and Leash :)

I use the Canon straps that come with the camera, but 90% of the time it's not around my neck. Instead I wrap the strap around my right wrist while holding the camera's grip with my right hand. Works well enough for me...

I have used the Peak Design straps but for these types of cameras I like the Slide Lite instead of the larger Slide. Also on a lot of my cameras, including my EOS R, I attach a arca-swiss compatible plate which can accept a strap that uses a Quick Disconnect (QD) type of connector. Works for tripod mount and a great strap connection.

So this approach allows me to use a Black Rapid with a QD connector on it. Magpul also makes this kind of strap and there are others. In my case I use an arca-swiss plate for either Really Right Stuff (RRS) or KirkPhoto. Hejnar also makes plates with this type of socket but I don't know if they have one for the EOS R. For the EOS R mine comes from RRS.

+1, Peak Design is it!

And no experience that your camera/lens got scratched by the metal parts of the PD strap when stored in bag?

None at all, and I'm not that careful with it (especially when I'm cold!)... just stuff it all in the bag and zip it up :)

+4 Peak Design (Slide) - and the PD Leash is also really handy on a RP / RF 35 combo

OK, seems that I'm decided to go for PD. I will check if Slide or Slide Lite... I will see...

That was my experience with PD Slide Lite. I eventually wrapped some fabric around the adjustment buckles to keep them from scratching up the barrel of my telephoto on long carries in my backpack but that defeated part of their purpose.
