In another thread, a user was asking about 30+ second exposures with an ND filter to capture motion blur and a high dynamic range scene.

But there is an alternate method that I think is better suited for digital photography. And a user suggested I post this to a new thread for everyone's benefit, in case the information got buried in the other thread.  Many may already know it, but it could be a helpful reminder.

So here it is:

Basically, if you're ever after the best image quality & flexibility you can get (especially for landscapes), then always take several exposures in case you want to stack your images.  Stacking gives more detail, less noise, more dynamic range, and the same effect as a longer shutter speed.
