In-between ISOs

Hello folks,

If you use auto ISO, the camera will pick non-standard values like ISO 140 or 125, etc.  I don't know the mechanism of how sensor gain works (e.g. where is the amplifier, DAC, etc) but I do know that the camera is ISO invariant and that ISO 200 has 1 bit, or stop, less dynamic range than ISO 100.   So in the interests of getting the best dynamic range, shadow lifting, etc. is ISO 140 literally half way between 100 and 200 in terms of dynamic range, or is it as bad as 200?
