However auto ISO is limited to still shooting, not allowed on video yet...

I think we're confusing the guy. If you set the camera to M mode on the mode dial, (not Creative Video mode on the mode dial) auto ISO is available. I just tried it on my G7 - Rolled some video and panned between a dark corner and a bright light. It took the camera a couple of seconds to readjust so the bright light wasn't activating the zebras.

Dear friend, I don't own G7.

All I did was consulting with the manual and upon my experience on Panny bodies (6 models including G85 in last 11 years) only. I had not checked whether would G7 allow Auto ISO in M ( still shooting). I expected it is not because its similar generation sibling GX7 does not.

If your Mode dial is not in M-video, I assumed you took video by the red REC button. If so, you are actually using the automatic mode (should = P of M-video). The automatic brightness adjustment was just P tried to maintain a 0ev exposure. Under auto mode, the camera can adjust any parameters from f/stop, Shutter speed to ISO as long as it is available.

While you shoot video, no matter using the automatic video mode by the red REC button or the M-video, any previous setting made in P/S/A/M of still shooting modes will be ignored. Any setting for video must be set under any of the P/S/A/M of M-video mode.

What the Exposure Compensation I suggested to OP is, for the cases that 0ev metering exposure does not give a dark or bright enough frame as we wanted (commonly happened on still shooting).

Wish I can clear it up.
