My 70-200 G2 is having an issue where it oscillates continuously as if it was trying to focus when resuming from standby. I have to turn the camera off and then back on after several seconds for it to return to normal operation.

I have the Tamron 100-400mm Di VC USD and while the AF always works eventually it is very slow in achieving focus if the subject is very much farther or closer than the last one. OTOH, my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II focuses almost instantaneously. I sometimes "help" the Tamron by adjusting the lens manually to bring the subject into rough focus. In passing, I must say that the Tamron's focus ring is very conveniently situated for this purpose.
