AF-S indecisive

Hello folks,

Today while testing for focus accuracy, I noticed one issue.  Using my Tamron 35-150mm lens at the 35mm end, I was focusing on a tree with the sky as the background.  When using AF-S, each time I pressed the button, the focus shifted by a little bit.  (back and forth)  The same thing didn't happen when I used the 150mm end, or when I used AF-C and repeatedly pressed the button.  I also tested against other objects like a car or traffic cone with the same effects.  There might be something "off" with this lens, as the focus point is right on for most of the zoom range, except for at the 35mm end, where it may or may not have a bit of backfocus.
