Yana,

I travelled to Japan two years ago with a M system kit. I carried two bodies (M5 and M6) and four lenses (11-22, 22, 18-150, 28 macro). Carrying two bodies allowed me to have two lenses always available. I found it to be a very versatile set-up. Your proposed M set-up sounds lightweight but I wouldn't travel with it unless I also added the 22mm pancake as well. It would give you a great reasonably close-focusing option as well as a low light option. For you, that would mean more money to invest in the M system even though you can get a used 22mm at a very reasonably price. And for that price, you do get a very decent lens.

However, it sounds like you're on the fence regarding whether to invest in an M system or not. How important is IQ to you vs. lightness of your kit? And have you done any substantial travelling yet with the R + RF35/RF24-105 combo? If so, how did the weight feel to you? If it's too heavy, have you considered just going with the RF35mm and another prime like an EF50/1.8 or EF85/1.8? I was really inspired by the following experiences of amateur photographer, Johannes Trbola who took the RF35mm with him on a business trip to China and then, post-trip, evaluated his experience with the lens (very positive overall):

I think he really showed off the strengths and the versatility of the RF35mm and now I'm seriously considering just travelling with the R and the RF35mm when I return to Japan in March.
