Re: Kodak Pixpro WP2 waterproof camera released
I agree with your comments regarding image quality from small sensor cameras. I too have a Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer. I normally only go to 11X14" from my small sensor cameras due to wall space limitations. But, at that degree of enlargement I get outstanding results from my small sensor cameras. Of course I do my part. I make sure I have enough light for the photograph I am going to make. Sometimes dark areas can remain dark or in silhouette, so I don't have an issue with noise. I try to get it as right as possible in the camera, a habit from my film days, and bracket to make sure I cover all my options. Then I post process in PSE, never just SOOC. I do everything possible to make the print on the wall is the best it can be.
I have my 11X14" small sensor prints hanging next to prints from my APS-C system and they are indistinguishable even looking as close as normal vision will allow. I consider pixel-peeking pointless as it does not accurately reflect the reality of looking at the print in its entirety, and not my intent in any photograph I have ever taken.
Finally, after several years of having the Pixma Pro 100 (my old printer, very old, did not go over 8X10") I decided to do a 13X19" print from a small sensor. I had a spot in my garage/shop/gym/man cave and a specific automotive-related print in mind, so I gave it a shot. I was (am) amazed. It did not lose anything from its prior 11X14" iteration.
If one reads these fora, one reads a fairly steady stream of negative comments about the ultimate image quality that small sensor cameras can yield. Those comments contradict my (and apparently yours plus a few others)) results. I am left to ponder the skill levels of those critics given the easily demonstrable results of such cameras, provided the photographer does his/her part.
Your attached images on your initial post are excellent, and do demonstrate what the camera can do. I use my 'tough' cameras in a variety of adverse environmental conditions, so the above-water performance is critical to my use of any such camera.
