Re: Travel with EOS M instead of EOS R?

I'm current a EOS R User, I will go Japan Osaka next month with my family.
Last year I went Japan with my wife, with 6D, 50 1.2, 24-105, but 60% time leave them at hotel, because everyday were rainy day, I'm tired with the umbrella and bulky DSLR .
Now I'm planning bring the RF 24-105 & RF35 to Osaka, and outgoing with 1 lens. I think the R with RF35 is light enough for everyday carry.
Or should I give APS-C Camera a try ? Now the M6 MKI kit just USD350, but need add 40-50 for extra battery, 1 tiny battery for travel not feeling enough.
Also I'm afraid EOM-M6 with Kit lens were poor performance compare with R with RF35.
Keep using 1 system, Save money for next lightweight RF lens. or
the M6 with kit lens still great and worth to get?
I will go local Canon store to give it a try.
If you add the 22 to the M6 kit you can get very good results with that lens. I personally wouldn't dump a bunch of money into anything M related, but you're talking a relatively small layout so it may be worth it. Also look and see if maybe a 1" compact might be a good small addition.
I have the same R setup as you. Would love to see a few small RF primes one day. The 35 isn't huge but not really small either. Best thing about the RF 24-105 is I feel it is very versatile, but if you're not gonna carry it most of the time then better to have something you will have with you.
I personally have some m43 gear that is really good for travel. Right now another good buy if you can find it is the Panasonic GX85 with a 12-32 (24-64 equiv.). The lens is pretty good. They also have a 35-100 4-5.6 (70-200 equiv.) lens that is tiny, very sharp and can be carried in a pocket. I use these 2 lenses on either a GM1 (long discontinued) or GX9 (similar to GX85, newer but more expensive) for a small, light but capable travel setup.
m43 also has some very good small primes and also some high quality f 2.8 zooms. Lens selection is vastly superior to the M lineup. There is no compatibility between R and M so no reason to limit your search to the M system. Also all recent m43 cameras have IBIS. Works great with their small primes like the 17 1.8, 25 1.8 etc.
If you travel a lot you should have at least one camera/lens combo you feel good about having with you all the time so I think it is worth investing in something else even if it is not compatible with your R.
