When will Sigma and/or Tamron produce RF lenses?

I agree with you. As a matter of fact, Canon is probably the manufacturer who gives third party players the best access to their protocol, and ensure the best backwards compatibility with older optics.

From what I can tell, Sony is actually the one who gives the best access.  They have an open mount to third party manufacturers.

Being originally a Nikon shooter (but who's maintained up to 3 systems side by side, Nikon-Sony), I recently sold all my Nikon gear after trying out the Z6 on wich NONE of my Nikon mount lenses would AF with (Sigma non OS, Tamron non G2, and Nikkors D lenses). That ticked me off pretty badly, for sure. Now I bought an RP and ALL Canon mount lenses, even the most ancient and crappiest Sigma oldies (not that I want to shoot that, but it proves a point), not only function, but I don't see them being hobbled much, if at all, in terms of using full functionality of the camera, face detection and AF eye, to name them. So I think Canon is being the smartest player here. They develop their own, extremely superior quality and super expensive, RF glass for those you can pay the price and live with the bulk (I can neither), and let Sigma, Tamron, Samyang etc, take care of less wealthy customers like me who want more affordable and more portable. And though I would LOVE to go back to Nikon ergonomics, menus, and just everything I love about Nikon (which I can shoot with my eyes closed), the lens issue keeps me safely in Canon (and Sony via the ability to adapt lenses) camp for now. In other words, looks like Nikon has shot themselves in the foot with being so closed in approach to lens compatibility.
