I have not heard that the Samyang 14mm uses "EF" - ie: you can use the R's fast EVF refresh and the other small limitations of EF protocol lenses on the EOS R.. has anyone? If there is no such limitation on the Samyang 14mm then figuring out the protocol is easy - Samyang already did it.

With the Samyang AF 14mm for RF, fast EVF refresh rate is not available. Peripheral illumination (vignetting) and distortion corrections, as well as in-camera DLO, can be enabled.

So they are basically running it as an adapted EF lens. Not bad for certain focal lengths, but someone has to crack the protocol for tele zooms. And hell, I use my 35 1.8 to capture my wiggly toddler indoors, so HSD would be nice all around.

But if that's the only tradeoff it could be worth it for some lenses.

One thing I am really hoping for is some more electronically connected manual focus glass. That kind of gets around the HSD problem.
