Just like the title says -- when do you think? In the comments, please say which lenses you think they may put out, the order they may come, and/or what lenses you'd like to see from them.

kind of a trick question / survey.

Sigma 2020

Tamron 2021

As far as Sigma.

Going by how they've done the L mount, etc

- first wave will be the EF lenses that are "RF adapted".

- second wave will be native FE/L mount lenses ported to the RF mount

If I had to guess timeline:

Feb 2020 for 5-6 lenses (the RF adapted ones)
Late 2020 for some FE/L lenses available for the RF mount

We should know more in the next month really.

Tamron

- no idea. I plan on having a convo with them about it at CP+.  They have stated in the past that they haven't done these lenses just for the FE mount.  So they can surprise I guess at any time.

The easist implementation for either company is just to use the EF protocol.  It's probably harder (but better over time) to use the native RF protocol but that may be lens release 2.0's for these companies.

One thing about it - by basically being EF/RF switchable in camera, Canon has made it incredibly easy for these companies to fast track lenses out the door.  The question is, do they want to use the "old" protocol with a small subset of disadvantages or go full out RF.

I have not heard that the Samyang 14mm uses "EF" - ie: you can use the R's fast EVF refresh and the other small limitations of EF protocol lenses on the EOS R.. has anyone?  If there is no such limitation on the Samyang 14mm then figuring out the protocol is easy - Samyang already did it.
