"Obsolete" cameras: is it a serious concern?

If it is because of safety regulations, then , why can we buy the cheaper 3rd party version ?

They have the same physical appearance and contacts (to be compatible).

If a 3rd party can use a safer chemistry, why not the OEM manufacturer ?
