Computational Photography

This thread could go anywhere, FX, DX, Z, etc.  Smart phones have implemented computational photography that allows my Pixel 3, for instance, to capture nine images of a given photo, then use all nine to improve the quality of the final file.  Some say that by doing so it approaches the quality of an APS-C sensor.  Seems that camera makers will be doing the same sometime in the future, so a crop sensor could conceivably surpass medium format cameras.  At least for static scenes, so landscape photographers could benefit.  Sports photographers, other action shooters not so much.  It seems not unreasonable my next camera will implement at least some computational photography tools.  What do you think?
